Billy had his first taste of theatre lighting in his high school years.
He graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, School of Technical Arts in 1996, majoring in theatre lighting design.
He has joined the Prague Quadrennial 2007 and 2011 with Colour Fugue by CCDC and My Life As a TV by ELDT & PIP Theatre respectively.
He was awarded best lighting design by the Hong Kong Drama Awards in 2008, for his design of The Secret of Resurrection by Hong Kong Repertory Theatre.
He started collaborating with Edward Lam Dance Theatre in 1997 with the production of Hong Kong is Not a Place for Love and went on to recent works like I am Not Sherlock Holmes and This Is Not a Pipe, What is Sex?, I Hate Therefore I Marry and Arts School Musical.
Recent lighting design works include A Midsummer Night’s Dream, God of Carnage, Equus by Dionysus Contemporary Theatre; the chamber opera Datong - The Chinese Utopia by Hong Kong Arts Festival 2015; Choreographer Duncan Macfarland and Taiyuan Dance Troupe Wild Geese; the musical Sing High that was produced in conjunction with the 15th anniversary of the Macau Cultural Centre; the Hong Kong Ballet production of Don Quixote; Tonnochy by Emperor Entertainment Group; Metro Holik Studio At Last, We Met; Smear and Heart of Coral - A witty local drama production and a chamber opera after the life of Xiao Hung commissioned and produced by Hong Kong Arts Festival; Thunderstorm by Tang Shu Wing Theatre Studio; The Rose of the Name and Telelove by Trinity Theatre.
He is one of the two curators of the Hong Kong Theatre Design Exhibition 2013-15: PARALLEL SPACE and the Hong Kong Exposition in the 13th Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space.
He has also been awarded Best Stage Art (Lighting Design)
by Shanghai Modern Drama Valley 2017 One drama Awards, with his lighting design for What is Sex?
